Growing up, I will never forget the “fashion shows” my sisters and I put on in the upstairs of our house. We would wear ballet costumes and old hand-me-down dresses from my mother and her sisters while strutting from one side of the room to the other. My favorite part of our fashion show was getting all dolled up. We had a small drawer in our bathroom that was dedicated to makeup. This magical drawer was off-limits to me most of the time, but when it was time for a show, WATCH OUT.
I should probably let you all know that at the time, the most beautiful makeup I had ever seen was worn by the actress who played Endora (Agnes Moorehead) on the 1960’s television series known as Bewitched. So you can only imagine the type of “look” I was trying to achieve. Blue and purple eyeshadow, red hair, exaggerated winged eyeliner, red lips, what more could a young aspiring makeup artist ask for.
In my early 20’s I became a Licensed Advanced Cosmetologist which I enjoyed, however, it wasn't my passion. My mother must have known where my heart truly lies because she strongly encouraged me to apply for a position at MAC Cosmetics where I was hired for a part-time position. My whole life changed after my first shift. I was surrounded by counters full of bright and sparkly cosmetics. Variations of colors and products I never knew existed and other artists who loved makeup as much as I did. My makeup collection grew and so did my skills as a Professional Makeup Artist.
After 6 years with MAC Cosmetics and working in salons, it was time to pursue another passion of mine, Travel. I set sail with Carnival Cruise Line working as a Hairstylist and Barber in the spa. My first few months were slow and made me realize that not many people come to get their hair done while cruising. I made it my goal to conjure up some ideas on how to bring in more clients, which increased my cash flow. I didn't realize it then, but I was running my own business.
I came home after a couple of contracts and shortly after, opened my own Makeup business. With the beauty industry changing so much and Permanent Makeup becoming extremely popular, I added Microblading to my services. As of 2017, I am the proud owner of StudioM Microblading & Makeup. I am a Cleveland-based Makeup Artist and specialize in Microblading and Makeup for bridal, special events, commercials, and movies.
